Nauvoo Log Cabins

by Danny Van Fleet - April 21, 2008
This newsletter I am going to concentrate on the route to give you a better idea of our travel plans. We've changed a couple of stops, so we've updated the map page - please take a look. We've also uploaded new worksheets to show the updated itinerary.
For this bit of news, my web gal, Toni Davidson, has placed a microphone in my hand and asked me to talk with you. If you can't hear my audio, send Toni an email. She'll send you a transcript.
I would also like to hand out a few thank you notes to some great people that have taken their time to assist us in this event.
Mr. Leon Wilkinson, President of the Iowa Mormon Trail Association, has been a key asset to our event team. Over the last three weeks, Leon and I traveled Iowa. He helped my fine tune our route. I hope you all get the chance to meet "Leo"; you won't soon forget him! A loyal friend indeed, many thanks. (you can see Leon in the Burlington Hawkeye video here.)
Tom Holliday has graciously opened his meadow atop the bluff on Parley Street in Nauvoo, from which we will gather and begin our trek west. If you are coming into Nauvoo early to explore all the historical sites or meet with others, you may either camp out in the meadow or stay at Tom's Nauvoo Family Inn & Suites. If you're planning on staying at the motel, make sure you call your reservation in and mention the Van Fleet ad in our newsletter for a discount. Tom has offered many valuable suggestions for which we are thankful. Tom and his wife are planning on spending a few days with us out on the trail. I hope you have the chance to meet them.
Reminder: I've talked to hundreds of people interested in this ride. Many have said they're joining us but haven't registered yet. I just want to remind those that are going to get those forms in so we can process and confirm your plans. We're just weeks away!
P.S. We're looking for outriders to help out on the trail. If you are interested, give me a call, 309-337-1100, so we can make a deal!
