Nauvoo Log Cabins

by Danny Van Fleet - February 15, 2008
Those of you joining us in our trek across Iowa this June may want to consider arriving in Nauvoo a few days in advance to see where the pioneers lived up until the exodus west began in 1846.
Nauvoo was a beautiful little thriving community with lots of hope and promise for the future. The beauty and serenity that exists in Nauvoo today was much the same in the 1840's. If you visit this spring before our departure heading west, you will get a feel of what a heart-wrenching decision it must have been to pack up and leave and not know for sure where your family would end up or when.
As we cross the Mississippi River to Montrose and look back at Nauvoo, the
spirit of the trail will take hold of you for the first time.
I plan to be in Nauvoo those few days before we head west and would enjoy getting to know you and being available to answer your questions or possibly even tour the sites with you. There are plenty of motels in Nauvoo to accommodate your group before our departure and over 50 free historical sites to visit.
To those planning to go all the way to Utah ...
It is my hope that we will be invited to ride in the "Days of '47" parade in Salt Lake in 2010. To qualify to be in the parade you would need to have been on the wagon train the entire way. Believe me when I say, this celebration will make your efforts worthwhile. The proud feeling of accomplishment that will fill your soul is indescribable.
You won't want to miss out on this historic exodus west that shaped the future of the Mormon Faithful and proved to everyone then, as well as everyone now, that what they had believed in was, and still is, worth the efforts. God Bless us that we have a safe and fulfilling journey this year.
